In the week that the Beckhams gave their newborn daughter the middle name of ‘Seven’, Lola became 7 months old. 7 months? Where has 7 months gone? I’m sure she was only born a couple of week ago?! She’ll be a year before I know it, and that is scary.

Lola said ‘Da Da’ for the first time at the weekend, and she didn’t just make a noise that sounded like ‘Da Da’. She was sitting on the floor with her toys on Saturday morning, and she looked over and stared up at me with her gorgeous brown eye’s, smiled and said ‘Da Da’ – that memory will be with me forever, it is something I will never forget. She knew who I was and she (kind of) knew what I was called. ‘Da Da’. I like being called ‘Da Da’, but only when Lola says it, to everyone else it’s still Sam, or if I’m being told off, Samuel.

Along with ‘Da Da’ Lola has discovered that she can make a lot more noises now, things like ‘Bwaaa Bwaaa’ and ‘Mwah Mwah and many more. this means that we no longer suffer the screaming when she wants to eat or can’t sleep, and we are now treated to a repetitive ‘song’ – ‘Ba ba ba, Ba ba ba, Ba ba ba, Ba ba ba’. You would think it would get annoying, but it doesn’t. It’s actually pretty funny, and it’s just yet another thing she has learnt and discovered.

She got a whole new selection of toys a couple of weeks ago, more grown up toys, toys that make noises when she bashes them or eats them, toys that sing the same annoying song over and over again – JOY! But she really is loving her new toys, especially the stacking cups. I think the cups and her books are her favorite, I say this because she makes a kind of growling groaning noise when she plays with them. usually they end up in her mouth one way or another, but she does turn the pages of her books and we like to think that the growling is her reading the books – lets hope she picks up the words soon!

Lara’s been back at work for a little over a month now, and she’s doing really well. It’s taking time getting back in to the swing of things, but she’s working hard and doing the best she can, which is typical her. The new routine is tough on all 3 of us, especially Lara as she becomes the chauffeur in the morning, as we drop Lola off at Nursery, then she takes me down to the train station, then she drives down to my parents house, leaves the car there, then walks down to the train station by my parents house. We do this because my Mum (Nana) picks Lola up from Nursery in the afternoon and looks after her until we get home from work, so we need the car to be at my parents, so that we can then drive home. It’s a long and tiring day, but it’s all worth it, and hopefully it is only for the short term.

Today is exactly 3 months until Little Lara is due. 3 months was how long she had been inside the bump before we told people. Going by my memory that didn’t seem like a very long time at all. This all means, that I will soon be a Dad! Woohoo!

Little Lara is really moving now, and she is kicking her Mom a lot. This morning, we were at my parents house, and I had my hands resting on the bump, and she was kicking so hard, it was almost as though she was trying to kick her way out of there. Strangely enough, she got very shy when my Mum (Nana) tried to feel the kicking. Maybe Nana helps calm her down, or maybe she was just playing hide and seek?

MY cousin and his girlfriend came down from Manchester this weekend, and they are due to have a little girl in just 6 weeks, so she is a little bit bigger than Lara, but it was good for them to get together and discuss how pregnancy is treating them both. It was so strange to be at a family meal, and have 2 expectant mothers – it was a new experience for us all, and a very good one too!

My uncle, who cannot wait to be a Grandad, got us the most amazing outfit for Little Lara. It is the cutest thing, and so smart. I think we’ve decided that this outfit will be her going home outfit, because it’s so small and so cute. It’s a set of trousers, a top, a jacket and a little hat to keep her head warm. I love it!

Little Lara has got so many clothes now, not just that we have got her, but everyone is so generous. I’ve accepted now that the presents I get from now on, will be baby related, but that’s ok – I like it!

We really need to start getting the rest of the stuff together, and stop buying clothes, because apparently babies need a lot more than just clothes. We have a list set up with Mothercare, so if anyone wants to know what to get our little girl, check it out here.

For my birthday, Lara got me a Flip video camera, so that I can easily capture videos of our little girl once she is born, it’s perfect because it’s nice and small and easy to use, and I can upload videos straight to the internet, so everyone can see them quickly and easily. I’ve been practicing with it, by getting Lara to do her own personal update for you all to see. Here she is in all her bumpy glory!

My YouTube channel is here, so keep checking it, as I may not link to all the videos we put up, from the blog.

Only 17 weeks to go, that is crazy! We are well and truly past half way now, and I for one, cannot wait to meet little Lara.

I’ve spent most of my free time this week, with my hand on Lara’s bump, waiting for our little girl to give me a whack, but it seems as though our little girl will only kick when and where she wants too, and will not be pushed, prodded, asked or even told when to kick. I sit there in the evenings waiting, asking her to give me a little kick, sometimes Lara even gives her a little prod – but nothing, she refuses to play ball! Until last night, she decided she has had enough of the nagging and gave me a good few kicks! Thats my girl!

It wouldn’t bother me that much, if it wasn’t for the fact that my Mum, Nana, put her hands on the bump on Wednesday night, for the first time, and within 2 minutes Little Lara did the biggest backflip (or front-flip, we can’t quite be sure) she’s done yet, it was so big it scared Lara and she gave out a big scream. That is so typical, kids love showing off for their grandparents.

Sleeping has changed a lot recently, not just because it’s probably extremely uncomfortable for Lara and she always has to go to the toilet. But if you came in to our bedroom, you would think that we already have one kid and that they like to build forts. Lara is now the pillow Queen. She has a couple for her head, one between her legs and now one to support the bump. It doesn’t sound like that many does it? But you would think it was a lot when you wake up every morning clinging on to the side of the bed, because the pillows have taken over. I’m not complaining, I want Lara to be as comfortable as possible, but I will draw the line the morning I wake up on the floor!

I promised I would post a picture of our little bump, and here it is in all it’s glory!

It’s so weird to think, that within that bump is a lemon sized mini me! SO CRAZY!

Things seem to have got much more real this week, now that most people know and because now we can see a slight bump. But also I think the whole thing is properly sinking in now. All those worries I have of will we be good parents and can we afford it, seem to be easing up slightly and are being replaced with sheer excitement and joy. It truly is an incredible feeling and experience. It’s not something you can ever begin to explain, it’s a whole new feeling and I like it!

The baby is already making an impact in our life in a physical way, not just because of the bump, and that meaning Lara has to buy lots of new clothes. But we got our first baby clothes this morning, sent over from Lara’s Mom’s cousin Riva, in Seattle. When I opened the box this morning to reveal a tiny hat and bib, and a little baby grow, a little tear came to my eye. It was another moment that made it that bit more real. It was an amazing thing for me, something that I never really thought about before it happened, but it just got me all excited and happy. They are also all UW (University of Washington) branded, which is where Lara and quite a few of her family went to school. I have a funny feeling our little baby might be wearing a lot of that stuff through his/her life. Thank you so much for the clothes Riva, I’m sure he/she will be very happy in them!

Lara’s back is really causing her some problems at the moment, she looked it up and it seems a pretty common problem, something to do with her lower back joints. The hormone that your body releases during pregnancy loosens up your joints and makes them more mobile which then causes over use and inflammation. Sound fun doesn’t it?! I don’t like it when this sort of stuff happens to Lara, because it just reminds me of how I go through this pregnancy without any pain, sickness, tiredness or anything changing, and she has all that and more. I try to be as understanding as possible and offer to help in any way I can, but I think most of the time she just want to sit, relax and block it out. I guess it’s getting close to that time when I have to do everything around the house.

Me and Lara are going on our first baby shop on bank holiday Monday, and we’re going with my parents, Nana and Grumps (I want him to be called Grandpa, because he is so much like his Dad and that is what me and my brother called him. I also think Grumps just sounds like another name for Grumpy – he is not Grumpy!). I’m not sure what we’ll come back with yet, I’m hoping to get 1 big item sorted this weekend, so we can spread the cost over as much time as we can, but we will see.

I would just like to say a quick thank you to everyone for the amazing response to our news, knowing how happy and excited you all are really means a lot to us, and it just reminds us of how lucky our little baby will be, to be coming in to a family (I include all our close friends in our family) with so much love and support.

I’m going to be a Dad!

I recently became a Dad to the beautiful Lola Barbara Christine Child. She is the most incredible thing that has ever happened to me and I love her SO much.

Thank you for visiting and joining me on what is a truly incredible journey.
